Two men are set to appear before Birmingham Magistrates tomorrow (Thursday 15th) charged with the murder of Hawkesley teenager Connor Smith.
Connor died as a result of a gunshot wound to the abdomen on Thursday. He was shot close to his home in Forde Way Gardens, Hawkesley.
The two Kings Norton men – Marcus Jones, 27, and Phillip Baillie, 28 – are charged with murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear. Baillie is also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm and robbery.
A 27 year old man, arrested in Coventry on Monday, remains in police custody and, despite the charges brought so far, the investigation into Connor’s murder continues.
Detective Inspector Warren Hines said: “We continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with knowledge about what happened to come forward in confidence and talk to us as soon as possible.
“My thoughts today remain Connor’s friends and family and I would to thank those who have done the right thing and come forward.”
A Coventry man (41) and two women (22 and 26) from Chelmsley Wood, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with any information which may help the investigation is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
