West Heath Surgery has now opened its doors 7 days a week for its patients. Consultations will be offered early mornings, late evenings and at weekends in addition to traditional surgery hours. The increase in GP and nursing appointments are the first part of the My Healthcare project which will see further innovation such as telephone and video consultations and the use of web and smart phone apps to access services. The project will also involve the addition of many specialist clinics delivered in partnership with hospitals and community providers enabling care that is closer to home and more joined up.
To mark the announcement of the project award, the Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid, met staff and patients at West Heath Surgery earlier this year to hear about how the extra resources will improve services. Sajid Javid said: “We all rely on GPs and this funding will increase the opportunities for patients to engage with medical services.”
Nirmal Vora, Managing Partner at West Heath Surgery and Programme Director for My Healthcare, said: “We’re delighted to be awarded this opportunity to innovate healthcare across primary and community care. The model we have proposed has been developed over a number of years using feedback from patients, healthcare workers and our own staff and will ultimately benefit patients by making it easier to access services.
