As part of our coverage of 2015 local and General elections, we have invited candidates from Northfield and Bromsgrove constituencies (general election) and Kings Norton, Longbridge, Northfield, Weoley, Rubery North and Rubery South wards (local elections) to send in 500 Words describing themselves and their campaign.

This from prospective parliamentary candidate for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in Northfield, Keith Rowe

I have run my own small business for over twenty five years as well as being the head of a local religious charity. I have seen first hand how government policy affects the way business works and has restricted growth and prosperity. In particular over the last few years the massive growth of European interference has become apparent in all aspects of business as well as in other areas, to the detriment of us all.

It was seeing these effects together with a strong belief that things could be done so much better which lead me to put my head above the parapet and become involved with politics.

I have now spent several years working politically within Birmingham, standing for election both for Birmingham City Council and last year for the position of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.

I believe that only UKIP has the policies which will allow the Country to prosper in the future, by freeing up both individuals and business. Keeping us shackled to an organisation which allows unelected bureaucrats to make 75% of our laws and yet which has not been able to have its own accounts signed off for over 19 years, which costs us £55 million every day and which stops the elected Government being able to determine basic controls such as who enters the Country is not in our best interests.

We could do so much more if we could govern our own affairs and trade freely across the world.

I believe in personal freedom and an entrepeneurial spirit which is being shackled at present and I am prepared to speak up and use my experience to stand up for all of the people I hope to represent.

I believe that Members of Parliament work for the people and should be truly accountable to them. With this in mind I intend to be tireless in my efforts to improve the lives of all of the people who live and work in Northfield. I am not interested in the gravy train but instead wish to play my part in  making a positive change to the lives of everyone in the area.

I do hope to have the opportunity to work on your behalf and I thank you for placing your trust in me.
