from West Midlands Police:

Two men are being sought after a 60-year-old man was attacked by would-be robbers in Longbridge last night (14 April).

Police were called to Tessall Lane after the man was beaten to the floor during the attempted robbery at around 10.50pm.

The man was heading towards Bristol Road when two young men approached him from the opposite direction and then grabbed him as they walked past.

The robbers asked him to empty his pockets but when their victim refused they began to punch and kick him, causing him to fall to the floor. While on the ground the pair rifled through his pockets but were disturbed by a passing car.

The 60-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment while police launched an investigation into the assault and work to identify those involved.

The men are described as white, aged in their late teens to early 20s, around 5ft 7in tall, one was very slim while the other was of heavy build, both wore dark clothing and the thinner offender wore a beanie style hat. They both fled into a field alongside Longbridge train station and Austin Sports and Social Club.

Anyone with information should call Birmingham South Investigation Team by dialling 101.

  1. This is happening far too often in this city. Scum like this are allowed to roam the streets freely because police are nowhere to be seen unless they are chasing traffic or looking after useless politicians. The offenders are more than likely already known to police but because some senile wishy washy old git in a stupid wig falls for the lies they spin, they get off with cautions and a free holiday.
