West Midlands Police have today released CCTV video footage (see below) of the moment when two men stole a crate of beer at gunpoint from a Kings Norton convenience store.

Two men, one armed with what appears to be a hand gun, threatened the shopkeeper at Vardon Supermarket in Vardon Way at around 7.30pm on Tuesday 6th January.

The men demanded money from the till but made off with just a crate of beer and a mobile phone when the seemingly calm shopkeeper activated his alarm and bravely grabbed a baseball bat to fend off his attackers.

Both men are described as white, in their 20s, around 5’10″ − 6’ tall with a skinny build.  One was wearing a blue jacket, a hooded top and tracksuit bottoms. The other wore a black jacket and black tracksuit bottom.

Investigating officer, DC Katie Morris said: “This was a violent and frightening robbery by two men who had no regard for the safety of the shopkeeper or his customers.

“The shopkeeper acted bravely to defend his livelihood and in this case it paid off, but the reality is this could have ended in tragedy. We would not recommend acts of heroism when confronted by a potentially loaded gun.”

Anyone who recognises the men or has any information on the incident is asked to call DC Kate Morris on 101. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
