SECURITY MARKING (Operation immobilise)
Officers will be offering a free security marking service at January and February’s tasking meetings. Items to be marked will be mobile phones, small tablets I.e. Ipads, Ipods, Laptops and Ereaders enabling residents to register Christmas presents. Security Marking will take place before the meeting at 6pm and after the meeting at 7.30pm.
UPDATES FROM LAST MEETING
Complaints received about rubbish including mattresses in Rainford Way, Kings Norton have been addressed. The rubbish was collected by the Neighbourhood Caretaker as part of a joint Housing / Police Operation.
Concerns raised about the defective lighting at both The Fold and Wychall Lane shops have been reported. Property management surveyors have confirmed tht they have been reported and will ensure the lights are reinstated ASAP. (Update – both locations have now been repaired).
BIN FIRES CAMPION AND SAFFRON HOUSE
Officers from Kings Norton Neighbourhood team have increased reassurance patrols in and around the area. This has resulted in no calls for service and no reported fires at the location.
A resident expressed concern at lack of updates of feedback from the last meeting. The resident had contacted police to report a disorder in the street. A full update has now been provided.
GOOD NEWS TRADING STANDARDS OPERATION
Kings Norton Police Officers working in partnership with Trading standards conducted an operation around the sale of Fireworks during the month of November on Kings Norton Ward. All Shopkeepers were found to be aware of the age limit and the Fireworks were stored correctly.
JOINT POLICE / HOUSING OPERATION
On 3rd-5th November Officers from Kings Norton Neighbourhood team, engaged in a joint operation with local Housing Officers and Neighbourhood Caretakers. The teams collected items of dumped furniture, old fencing and any items that could have been used to start bonfires. Subsequently there had been no reported incidents of ASB and illegal fires during this period.
Officers have executed a number of Drug Warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act across Kings Norton. One person had been arrested in connection with the offence of cannabis Cultivation, from a Flat on Shannon Road (Social Landlord Birmingham City Council have been advised, this will have a detrimental impact on the tenancy conditions). Another resident was issued with a Cannabis caution.
A warrant was also executed under the Dangerous Dogs Act in Grange Farm Drive, Kings Norton. An American Pit Bull was seized and has been destroyed.
Two males have been arrested by Officers from Kings Norton on suspicion of burglary. They were caught breaking into and stealing metal from the derelict properties in the groves off Green Lane. Both males have admitted the offence. They were both given Official Police Cautions.
The male who assaulted Police Officers at The Fold in October has entered a guilty plea at court and was sentenced on December 1st.
HOUSE FIRE DEE GROVE
Officers were directed to a house fire in Dee Grove, Hawkesley. One of the houses due for demolition had been set alight. PC Nick Badham entered the property and attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher from the Police Vehicle until the Fire Brigade arrived. The seat of the fire was found to be in an old washing machine left in the property.
Police Sgt Lowe intends to express his concerns and explore the feasibility of priority being given to the demolition of these properties to prevent further incidents. Police Sgt Lowe has now raised this issue with local Councillors at the last Kings Norton Ward Meeting, and hopes the regeneration team takes his views into consideration.
The location is currently the subject of metal thefts, in addition parents have also reported local children have been gaining access to the properties, and playing inside.
Officers have apprehended a van driver fly tipping in the lanes off Primrose Hill. The male has been charged with a number of driving offences and offences of fly tipping.
