Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service will be staging ‘test’ house fires in a derelict house in Kings Norton for the next ten days.

The council-owned house in Tern Grove, off Redditch Road, is earmarked for demolition as part of redevelopment. This will provide firefighters with an ideal opportunity to recreate realistic scenarios for training purposes.

A spokesperson for WMFS said: “The test fires will involve burning lounge furniture and kitchen contents in very carefully controlled conditions. We want to better understand the links between our attendance times and how a fire, gases and temperatures develop. We’ll also be looking at ventilation and air flows, and how long it takes smoke detectors to work.”

The test fires will take place between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday from Monday 21st July until Wednesday 30th July.

Some smoke is to be expected in the area, and people are asked not to call 999 if firefighters are already present.
