Last Thursday, parents of students at ARK Kings Academy got the chance to view the works of talented up and coming artists at a special exhibition of GCSE artwork at ARK Kings Academy.
After being welcomed by staff at reception, parents were whisked up to ARK Kings’ Art space, which had been transformed into a sophisticated art gallery for the evening. At the exhibition, parents were able to view a varied selection of work by ARK Kings’ GCSE Art students in a relaxing environment.
The exhibition was organised by ARK Kings Academy Art teacher Laura Middleton as an enjoyable way of celebrating the achievements of her GCSE Art students and building links between parents. Speaking at the exhibition, Miss Middleton said:
“Holding an exhibition is a great way to thank you to our GCSE Art students for all their hard work. It is fantastic to see that students and their parents are as proud of their work as we are.”
GROWING CONFIDENCE ON DISPLAY
From speaking with parents, it was clear how much they valued seeing their children’s work recognised. After seeing his daughter’s work, proud parent James Black said:
“I’ve come today and it’s absolutely blown me away. I didn’t think she was into Art in the way that she is. I didn’t know how good she was at it. It’s a bit of an eye opener.”
Students also welcomed the recognition they received from the exhibition. Year 11 student Deanna, whose Mother and sisters had come along to view her work, said: “having my work on display makes me feel good”.
BUILDING LINKS BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL
The GCSE Art exhibition is one of a number of ways ARK Kings Academy involves parents in school life. Parents are regularly invited to the school to celebrate student achievements. These events help raise the aspirations of students and parents, which is key to ensuring every student achieves their full potential.
