Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the car they were travelling in collided with a fence and traffic lights on Bristol Road, Selly Oak late last night.
The accident happened close to Fircroft College just before 11pm and the Northfield bound side of the A38 was closed while emergency services attended the scene.
One man was trapped in the car for 45 minutes before being cut free by fire crews. The man, in his late 20s suffered chest, pelvic & spinal injuries.
A second man, also believed to be in his late 20s, sustained serious head and spinal injuries.
Both men were treated and stabilised at the scene by West Midlands Ambulanice Service crews before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham by land ambulance.
An ambulance service spokesman said: “The hospital had been pre alerted to the patients serious injuries and a trauma team were on standby.”
