A West Midlands Police officer from Kings Norton has been charged with unlawfully and injuriously imprisoning a man and detaining him against his will.

PC Louise Taylor (34) will appear alongside fellow officer PC Andrew Wagg (28) from Great Barr at Stafford Crown Court on 14 October.

A complaint was made of on alleged false imprisonment of a man who was arrested for breach of the peace in Lozells Road, Handsworth in November 2011.

The case was initially looked at by the Independent Police Complaints Commission before being returned to West Midlands Police for a local investigation.

Following a thorough investigation by the force’s Professional Standards Department, the matter was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service who made a decision to charge the two officers, who were based at Birmingham Central police station. Both officers were suspended in April 2013 when they were charged.

West Midlands Police demand the highest standards of professionalism from all officers and staff. The force takes all complaints extremely seriously and each one will be thoroughly and professionally investigated.
