Air cadets at 479 Squadron in Rubery are celebrating after being awarded a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery fund towards equipment and kit for their Squadron equipment bank.

Roger Wood from the Squadron civilian committee said: “The squadron equipment bank is a free resource that provides all the kit and equipment the cadets will need for any of the activities they will take part in while at cadets. The equipment bank also removes the financial burden from parents and ensures that all cadets get full access to any activity the squadron can offer.”

Cadet Raynor (left) said: “Some of the equipment for Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions can be quite expensive and we are lucky at our squadron that we can borrow the kit when we need it. Air Cadets is the best thing I have ever done and I would recommend it to anyone.”

While Cadet Walton (right) added: “There are some cadets who have brothers or sisters at the Squadron, and those cadets and parents will really benefit from the equipment bank.”

479 Squadron has around 40 cadets, aged between 13 to 20, who meet each Monday and Wednesday between 7pm – 9.30pm.
