The new flagship Sainsbury’s store in the redeveloped Longbridge town centre opened today, signalling the start of a new era for the town.

The development,  on land formerly home to car makers Austin and MG Rover, still has some way to go to completion but today’s opening was a significant moment for the future regeneration of Longbridge.

Other businesses currently up and running on the site include Greggs bakers, Costa coffee shop and Autism Birmingham charity shop. Coming weeks will see a Premier Inn, Beafeater, Hungry Horse pub and numerous other retailers opening for business. The newly developed site is also home to Bournville College, The Factory young people’s centre, office buildings and the almost completed Austin Park.
