northfieldfireNorthfield fire have confirmed that a fire started on the gorse hill at Cockhill quarry, Rubery today was arson, as there were two fires started at the same time.

Three crews from West Midlands Fire Service attended and controlled the fires.

A fire service representative stressed that dealing with this arson meant that there was a lack of fire cover in areas and other stations had to be on standby to cover.

It really does get me made that every year around this time This part of the Quarry is always a magnet for children to light fires, Maybe the local MPs could arrange a clear up by local volunteers. This would make sure there was adults on quarry and may deter Children from this criminal act. I am sure with the cuts in local policing and the fire service there expertise could be put to better use than putting at arson fires on the old Quarry

    • Fire breaks have been cut in the vegetation by fire service, police, councillors and local volunteers. Hopefully this will prevent any fires from taking hold and threatening homes as happened last year!
