A wonderful thing is happening in and around Northfield – and around the world!

Beautifully arranged bouquets are being placed out and about for people to take home, putting smiles on the faces of strangers.

It’s all inspired by (Inter)National Lonely Bouquet Day, a project started by Belgian florist Fleuropean.

And The Flower Centre in Northfield is participating in the project. Co-owner Joy Gill said: “We will be putting a few [bouquets] around on the weekend 28th and 29th June as it is (Inter)national Lonely Bouquet day on 30th June. It really has captured a lot of interest from florists – I am a member of various florist groups on Facebook so in contact with florists all over the world -and the general public.”

But Joy hasn’t been able to resist leaving a couple of “tester” bouquets already!

Last weekend, a Flower Centre arrangement was left in bluebell woods at Waseley Hills Country Park. It was discovered by Nathan Boltz while on a stroll with his partner Bryan Turner. They immediately gathered it up, took it home and presented it to Nathan’s mum, Alison Boltz.

Alison, who runs Den Juniors children’s activities in Rubery, said: “I was totally shocked when they brought it in last Sunday. I know it was Fathers Day and I lost my own Dad 3 years ago so I don’t like celebrating it. So it was a lovely surprise and really made my day. I think this is a lovely gesture that the Flower Centre are doing and it’s bringing a smile to a few people’s faces so, again, I’d like to say a big thank you.”

Yesterday, Lindsey Thompson from West Heath discovered a Lonely Bouquet in the grounds of the Rose and Crown Hotel at Lickey. Lindsey, who is a keen iPhone photographer, said: “Thank you Flower Centre, they are absolutely stunning, I can’t wait to get some macro photos of them too!” You can view more of her photos on her Facebook page.

Clearly enjoying spreading the love, Joy said: ” It really is a movement spreading happiness one flower at a time!”

The Flower Centre (ever impatient!) are already posting cryptic clues on the locations of the Lonely Bouquets to be left next weekend! Follow their Facebook page or Twitter account to find out when they leave one and get a clue!

And if you’re quick, they’ve just left a clue for today – “The cost of this is the same on every side”…. hmmmmmm! Good luck!
