A 26 year old Kings Norton man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm yesterday after crashing his van into the side of a Billesley house during a police chase.
Police had identified his van, a silver VW Caddy, as being linked to suspicious activity. When they attempted to stop the vehicle the driver sped away from officers. Moments later he careered through a garden in Chinn Brook Road before striking the side of a house.
The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery whilst a firearm was recovered in a bag at the crash scene.
West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Wendy Bailey, said: “The occupants of the house were in at the time but thankfully weren’t injured − though the loud thud of a car colliding with their home must have come as a huge shock.
“Shortly before the collision a marked police vehicle tried to stop the van as information had been received suggesting it was linked to a planned robbery and may contain a firearm.
“Detectives will question the man today on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm.”
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
