An elderly man was taken to hospital this lunchtime after the car he was driving crashed into a house on Black Haynes Road, Weoley Castle.

Fire fighters from Highgate Station attended the accident and the man had to be cut free from his car which had come to rest on its side in the garage of a house near the Clover Road junction.

The man, believed to be 86, was described as having received “critical” injuries after being trapped in the vehicle for over an hour.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance crews found a car on its side in the garden of a property after it had collided with a garage wall.

“The driver was treated for chest and pelvic injuries. He was immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board before being conveyed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.”

Black Haynes Road was closed to traffic by West Midlands Police as emergency crews dealt with the casualty and accident investigators attended the scene.
