POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a Birmingham newsagent was robbed at gunpoint.
The lone offender went into News Plus in Grange Farm Drive, West Heath, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday 16 January and, after checking no-one was around, produced a pistol and demanded money from the till.
He grabbed a quantity of cash from behind the counter before leaving on foot in the direction of Heathleigh Road.
DC Darren Wilkie from the force’s Criminal Investigation Department, said: “The CCTV image is reasonably clear and I feel sure someone will recognise the man who is believed to live locally. At 5.30pm the area would have been busy… we’d like to speak to anyone who believes they recognise him or may have seen him running away from the scene.
“We believe he produced a handgun although, at this stage, it is possible that it was an imitation firearm.”
The man is described as a light-skinned black male aged 25-30 years old. He is approximately 5’10″ tall, of stocky build with short black hair and a beard. He was wearing a black fleece type jacket with a light coloured hooded top underneath and black gloves. He spoke with a local Birmingham accent.
Anyone with information is urged to contact DC Wilkie on 101 or alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
