A local couple answered a call for help posted on our Facebook page earlier today.
Marie Aston posted that elderly residents in bungalows on Shenley Lane, Northfield were unable to get out of their properties as their driveway had not been cleared of snow. Marie told us that the unadopted road was not the responsibility of the council and that residents could not get their cars out. Marie and her husband and two sons had already tried to clear some of the access road themselves.
After we posted an appeal for help, local couple Shauna Evans and Jason Deakin grabbed their shovels and went around and finished clearing the driveway.
Yvonne, a resident of the bungalows, said: “One pensioner has to use a walking stick, another uses a zimmer frame. Two lovely people have shown up to dig the snow away.
“What a lovely couple, I asked if they wanted tea but they did not want one. My neighbour also asked if they would like a coffee.”
Yvonne added: “I am quite emotional about it all, I cannot find the words to thank you all enough. Thank you so much.”
Her daughter Marie said: “This has really brought a smile to their faces. Well done and thank you so much.”
Yesterday, we also posted on Facebook and Twitter about Steve, a local Land Rover owner who spent much of his Sunday afternoon and evening driving around hotspots such as Frankley Beeches and Shenley Hill, helping motorists who were struggling through the snow.
We already know that B31 Voices readers are AMAZING but these three have really gone out of their way to help during this late winter blast!
Thanks to them for being fabulous, and to all the B31 Voices readers who have helped us keep the community informed yet again!
