Christmas sees a lot of extra rubbish from many households, so here’s an update on refuse collections and recycling facilities going in to the New Year.
Missed Christmas rubbish collections
After having no collections on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there WILL BE normal collections an 31st December 2012 and 1st January 2013. Bear in mind that these collections may be running late while collectors try and catch up with last week’s missed collections.
If you missed your black bag collection last Tuesday or Wednesday, your black bags will be collected this Tuesday or Wednesday.
Recycling your Christmas
If you missed your recycling collection last Tuesday or Wednesday, these will not now take place until the 8th and 9th of January.
If you want to clear some backlog, you could use bottle banks and cardboard bins locally, but please don’t use them if they are full – try again later!
Lifford Lane refuse and recycling centre in Kings Norton is open as normal through into the New Year. (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm | Sat-Sun 8.30am-4.30pm)
Place Christmas cards in your cardboard recycling for collection, or many stores provide a Christmas card recycling service. For example, Sainsburys in Northfield have a collection box in their foyer. Or save them for next year to make your own cards or gift tags!
Birmingham City Council provide a Christmas tree recycling service. Take your real trees for recycling at Lickey Hills Country Park or Woodgate Valley Country Park between 1st Jan and 1st Feb 2013.
