A man in his 60s was injured when he was in collision with a car outside Colmers School this afternoon.

The accident happened in Bristol Road South, Rednal at 3.24pm. The man suffered leg and back injuries. An ambulance and paramedic officer attended the scene. The man was immobilised and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service stated that his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Locals identified the injured man as one of the campus’s school crossing attendants. This was later confirmed by WMAS via Twitter.

The Colmers site contains four schools: Colmers School, Colmers Farm Junior School, Colmers Farm Infants School and Rubery Nursery and Children’s Centre.

The man, named locally as “John”, has worked on the school crossing for several years and is well known and liked by local school children and families. Many have expressed their shock and sympathies on our Facebook page.

We will provide further updates as we get them and wish him a speedy recovery.
