[Update 14th September 16.55 – Fatal motorbike accident victim named]

POLICE are appealing for information after a man died following a motorbike accident in Northfield in the early hours of this morning.

The 22-year-old man, from Druids Heath, was fatally injured as he was riding along Genners Lane towards Merritts Hill just after midnight.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to reports of a motorcycle road traffic collision at the junction of Frankley Lane and Merritts Hill, Northfield, Birmingham at around 0.15am Two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found a man who had come off his motorbike after reportedly colliding with a lamppost. Bystanders were providing first aid to the man.

“Sadly it quickly became apparent to crews that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and specialist officers are supporting the victim’s family.

Inspector Mark Watkins, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Although there does not appear to be any other vehicles involved, we are keen to hear from anyone that may have seen what happened, so that we establish the circumstances of the collision.”
