[Update Thurs 16th August 2.30pm] Severn Trent Water report that the repair has become more complicated as repair work has progressed and that only one lane from Northfield in to Birmingham will be reopened at present. The diversion will remain in place until further notice. 

[UPDATE Thurs 16th August 9:00am] Remains closed this morning due to structural damage. 

Severn Trent Water state that the road will be reopened later this morning and a walkway provided for pedestrians

From West Midlands Police:

This is to make drivers aware that part of the Bristol Road in Selly Oak, Birmingham is closed this morning due to flooding caused by a burst water pipe.

The area affected is the Bristol Road outside the Soak Public House.

The road will be closed for some time and diversions are in place.

It is believed the water supply has been turned off in the area while the damage is being assessed

  1. It’s sealed off from Oak Tree Lane to the University. A little overkill which involved my having to drive to work instead of parking at Selly Oak and getting the train. Not. Happy.

    Police everywhere, I thought there’d been a terrorist attack. And I still didn’t see a drop of water anywhere.
