Councillor Andy Cartwright has arranged for groups of children from local schools to visit MG Motor UK at Longbridge.
Two Year 5 groups from Rednal (Colmers Farm Junior School and St Columbas Primary School) have so far been on the visit, and organisers are hoping more will do so.
Children took part in a citizenship lesson with community volunteer Gemma Cartwright before enjoying a tour of the site museum, including a visit to the preserved office of plant founder Lord Herbert Austin.
Afterwards, pupils were taken on a tour inside the factory by MG UK staff, where they saw cars made in Longbridge being fitted with engines shipped from China.
The visit concluded with a ride in an MG6 test car and a look around the high tech Technical Centre, where the cars of the future for MG and China’s SAIC are designed.
Site tours are open to the public on Thursdays and must be booked in advance via the sales centre: call 0121 251 6533 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
