Dave Hickman, the owner of Dark Arts Gym in Northfield and Dark Arts Tattoos in Rubery has died after sustaining serious injuries in an incident outside his gym in Northfield earlier this month.
Police appealed for witnesses after Mr Hickman fell from a walkway, sustaining serious head and spinal injuries. Dark Arts Tattoo staff reported via their Facebook page this morning that Mr Hickman passed away yesterday (Saturday 21st July). Friends and customers left messages of condolence and support.
Two men were arrested after the incident as police tried to determine events: a 48 year old on suspicion of attempted murder and a 21 year old, who has since been released, on suspicion of wounding.
A murder investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police. The 48 year old has been charged with wounding and was remanded in custody at Birmingham Magistrates Court last week.
Detectives have renewed their appeal for vital witnesses to come forward. It is believed that following the fall, he was tended to by passersby before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Officers investigating the murder are appealing to those people to contact them with information.
Detective Constable Paul Read, from Force CID, said: “Almost two weeks on from the incident and we continue to work hard to establish what happened in the moments leading up to the fall that has ultimately resulted in this man’s death.
“If we and his family are to understand what happened that night, we need those good Samaritans’ who fought to save his life to contact us.”
In conjunction with other organisations such as charity Victim Support, the force has a range of measures in place to support witnesses.
Anyone with information should call Det Con Read on 101. Alternatively, people who do not want to speak with police officers directly can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Dark Arts Tattoo studios in Rubery and Oldbury will be open as usual tomorrow out of respect for Dave.
B31 Voices offers condolences to Dave’s family and friends at this difficult time.
