Just after midnight on Saturday morning, we were called to reports of a fire at Saxon Court residential care home in Turves Green.
Two fire crews from Northfield fire station were mobilised and the first appliance was on the scene within four minutes.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly discoveed a fire within a second floor flat of the three storey complex and used a fire extinguisher and a hose reel jet to entinguish the flames.
One man was treated at the scene by attending paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation , and did not require hospital.
The affected flat sustained about 50 per cent damage, but firefighters brought the incident to a safe conclusion in well under an hour and a half.
