Former Labour party cabinet member David Miliband MP was in Birmingham on Friday for two appointments. While he was in the area, Northfield MP Richard Burden thought it would be a good idea to bring him to Longbridge to see the new Bournville College, part of the town centre regeneration started under the last Labour government.
Mr Miliband was taken on a tour of the college by Richard Burden, college staff and the college’s National Union of Students president . The tour included car maintenance workshops, hair and beauty salons and the state of the art Urban Fitness gym.
After the tour, Mr Miliband held a question and answer session with international students at the college.
Richard Burden told us that David Miliband had been very impressed with the college and had described it as “a temple of learning”.
Mr Burden also said that the Longbridge development was about more than the new college, but that it was “a really good start”.
Following his tour of Bournville College, Mr Miliband went on to a question and answer session with political science students at the University of Birmingham and later spoke at an event for the West Midland Labour Finance and Industry Group.
