CLOSING DATE EXTENDED:  4th November 2011 – get your entries in soon! :)

Calling all children (14 years or under!) – we want your spooky stories of B31 / B45 / B38!

They can be stories you have imagined, stories you have heard and elaborated upon or totally true stories! The only requirement is that your story must be set around some area of B31, B45 or B38 – Northfield, Longbridge, Rednal, Rubery, Frankley, Kings Norton, Weoley Castle, West Heath. There’s the deep, dark woods around Lickey Hills (home to many monsters!), the old vacant Rubery Hill chapel, the old buildings left behind from Hollymoor Asylum, Weoley Castle ruins and who knows what lurks beneath the calm waters of Frankley Reservoir?!

We have managed to snag two marvelous judges for you to impress with your creativity!

  • Dorothy Lepkowska is an award-winning education journalist who has written articles for many national newspapers and magazines, including the Guardian, The Times Educational Supplement and the New Statesman.
  • Jayne Howarth worked for the Birmingham Post for 15 years and is now a freelance journalist and children’s book reviewer.

Our favourites will be published on b31.org.uk and win one of our brilliant prizes!

Prizes so far include:

  • a £10 WHSmith voucher,
  • a singing lesson with the wonderful Rebecca Schwarz
  • Children’s books thanks to Jayne Howarth – appropriate books for the winner’s age will be selected
  • 3 plastic sledges in preparation for the cold winter predicted! Courtesy of Dennings Hardware of Longbridge
  • A child’s Tshirt from Rubery based Bostin Tshirts

Good luck!

And now for the boring bit…..
