From Birmingham South Police:

Police in south Birmingham are investigating an attempted armed robbery yesterday afternoon, Monday 22 August 2011, in Frankley.

At least two offenders entered Frankley Convenience Stores in Holly Hill Road at about 4:30pm and threatened staff with a firearm.

In spite of the threats, the shopkeeper remained calm and collected and activated a personal attack alarm and alerted police. The offenders fled on foot, apparently empty-handed.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and conducted a thorough local search, assisted by the police helicopter.

The offenders, who are still being sought, were wearing hooded tops. A police spokesman said gun crime would not be tolerated and appealed to the public for information.

Anyone with information should call police on 0345 113 5000. Alternatively please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
