Meet Rebecca Schwarz. Brought up in Northfield and now living in Cofton Hackett, she makes a living teaching singing to clients of all ages.

Recently married and a new mum, she has vast experience as a singer and actress in many genres, including singing with jazz and blues bands, a “high tech duo”, a covers band, choirs, and performing in musical theatre off London’s West End.

In recent years, she’s been concentrating on teaching others and has excellent feedback from her students on her website.

Rebecca told us: “As a singer I started out singing my original songs at open mic nights in Brum and London.

“After attending a cabaret workshop in London in 2004 (I think), I realised I really wanted to be a singer and so moved back to Brum to pursue that. I then sang with a covers band all over the country as well as singing jazz around Brum with a trio and duo.”

It wasn’t until 2009 that Rebecca really started to push herself as a solo performer. “I took the bull by the horns and performed a cabaret show as part of Artsfest. I then was even braver and did this one woman show in May 2011. It went really well so I’m doing it again.” she says.

Rebecca will be singing at Pink Party, a cancer charity fundraiser at Bromsgrove Hilton, and performing her one woman show at the Kitchen Garden Cafe in King’s Heath later this month. In the future, she’d love to develop and tour with the show.

When we asked her, she described her show as “…chat and songs. I hope that the songs are either moving or funny and that the chatty is vaguely witty.”

She has even been compared to Victoria Wood!

Marvellous. The most entertaining show i’ve been to in years, and i’m not even a new mother! The lyrics & delivery were as good as Victoria Wood at her best” Gary Williams, musician

With her quirky sense of humour and emotional performances, you can be certain to be in for an entertaining evening!

You can see Rebecca’s one woman show at Kitchen Garden Cafe, York Road, King’s Heath on Monday 18th July. Tickets cost £5 and you can buy them from the venue or online via
