Press release from West Midlands fire service, with revised figures:

At 02:05 this morning Fire Control received an emergency call to attend a flat fire on Stokesay Grove in Longbridge, Birmingham.

Crews from Woodgate Valley, Smethwick, Kings Norton and Northfield Fire Stations attended a small fire involving the electricity supply on the ground floor of an eight storey block of flats. The cause of the fire was water leaking from the roof.

Forty people were evacuated with fifteen people being led to safety and receiving precautionary check ups.

Firefighters tackled the blaze using four CO2 extinguishers. A positive pressure ventilation fan was also used to clear away smoke. Two women and two infants were taken to hospital by West Midlands Ambulance Paramedics for a precautionary check up.

An Emergency Planning Officer and the Gas and Electricity Boards have also been in attendance. The stop message came through at 05:19.
