B31blog was informed on twitter at around 5.30pm today that Callowbridge Road & the A38 at Rubery were closed due to an incident.

Roads were closed for two hours during rush hour as a police negotiator tried to talk down a man threatening to harm himself.

The man, in his twenties, was spotted on the wrong side of barriers on the bridge over the A38 on Callowbridge Road at around 5.30pm. He appeared to have a rope tied around his neck, with the other end attached to the railings.

West Mercia Police, with assistance from West Midlands Police, closed off the A38 through Rubery, as well as Callowbridge Road while they attempted to talk the man down. I spoke to an officer at the road closure at Callowbridge Rd/New Rd at around 7.30pm and he confirmed a man was on the bridge, talking to officers and said that people should avoid the area.

The man was brought to safety shortly afterwards and placed under arrest.
